Ben Yoder, born and raised in Goshen, Indiana, is a celebrated figure in the field of music and education. From a young age, his interests spanned across a wide spectrum, encompassing the arts, outdoors, and particularly, music and theater. His journey started in Concord High School, where he participated in orchestra, choir, swimming, and theater productions, setting the stage for his future pursuits. His passion for performance was not confined to school, as he showcased his talent in regional community theater productions, especially with the Elkhart Civic Theatre.
Ben furthered his passion for music at Ball State University, earning a B.S. in Music Education in 2007. His thirst for knowledge did not stop at undergraduate studies; he sought to deepen his understanding and skills through post-graduate studies at the same institution. His professional journey spanned over 16 years in public education in Indiana, where he influenced more than 5000 students’ lives. As a strings specialist, he taught violin, viola, cello, and bass to middle and high school students. Additionally, he merged his love for music and drama by directing numerous theatrical productions, nurturing the next generation of artists.
Ben’s influence was not confined to the classroom. He served as a guest conductor and adjudicator, working with student musicians nationwide. His expertise was recognized in prestigious programs such as the East Kentwood Summer Orchestra, the Tennessee All-West Middle School Honors Orchestra, and The University of Memphis Summer Music Program.
Outside his professional realm, Ben is an avid book reader, live music enthusiast, outdoor adventurer, and a foodie who loves exploring new culinary experiences with his loved ones.
Throughout his illustrious career, Ben has garnered several awards, including being a quarterfinalist for the Music Educator Grammy Award in 2018. He received the Beneficence Award for Service to Ball State University in 2022 and was recognized as the Graduate of the Last Decade by the same institution in 2016. These accolades bear testament to his steadfast commitment to providing diverse and enriching educational experiences, shaping the future through music. His life and work epitomize the power of music as a transformative educational tool.
